I have seen a lot of “Patriot” inspired products in the 4 years that I have been writing for Tactical Shit. Some have been really cool, others have been extremely cool!
These rings I would place in the later category! It just so happens I know the artist himself, and when I found out what he was creating I reached out for an interview immediately. TS- How long have you been making custom jewelry?
LFR- I have been making custom coin rings for a little over a year now, at first I just did it for fun until some friends saw them and talked me into selling them.
TS- What got you into making rings?
LFR- I started it as a hobby that I just did every now and then, I liked to make silver rings but it got expensive because I never liked to sell them when I made them!
TS- What are some of the challenges in making your rings?
LFR- The biggest challenges in making my coin rings are CHALLENGE COINS! Those suckers are made from the toughest metals known to man! okay..maybe not, but it really seems like it when you are trying to work it! The tough metals are the hardest ones to do!
TS- Do you make/or plan to make any other jewelry?
LFR- I don’t currently make or have plans to make anything other than coin rings, but I am sure I will have some other crazy idea that catches on and people love!
TS- What is your favorite piece to make?
LFR- My favorite pieces to make have to got to be my 2nd amendment series of rings, including the Don’t Tread On ME gadsen ring, and the Molon Labe ring…I think the Cold Dead Hands ring is pretty cool too!
TS- How did you come up with the idea to make your rings?
LFR- My grandfather used to make rings from coins by beating the edges with a spoon when I was young and I would help him do that, but those turned out smooth around the outside of the band…I saw someone wearing a ring with the detail on the outside, so I did a little research and figured out a way to do it!
TS- Any projects in the works that you’re excited about?
LFR- I have a project for a barrel manufacturing company right now that I am working closely with in making rings from Barrel steel, which is pretty awesome if you ask me! They will be HOT sellers!
TS- Do you do custom orders?
LFR- Yes!! I do a lot of custom orders, all the way from military challenge coins to old silver coins that have meaning to people, even to AA coins and the like. I can literally make a ring from ANY coin!
TS- If you could make a ring out of one particular coin, what would it be?
LFR- I have been wanting to make a ring out of a 1oz platinum coin here pretty bad, so if anyone has $1,500 to drop on the coin and wants a bad ass ring made..get with me!
TS- How long does it take to make each ring?
LFR- It can take anywhere from 5-10 minutes for smaller, thinner coins like quarters all the way up to about 30-45 minutes to make one out of the copper coins that I use for my 2nd amendment series of rings!
