Pa. officer loses job after racially charged Snapchat photo

Okay. I was a Paramedic in the city of McKeesport where this occurred for several years.

I know a vast majority of the Fire, Police and EMS that work in that city. They’re all good folk. This lady however, I have never met. Anyone, who has ever run emergency services in a high crime area like McKeesport knows that you have to have a dark sense of humor to survive. Comes with the territory.

I get where she thinks she was being funny, but I must say this was in really poor taste and now her career is over. I can’t imagine a police department even glancing at her resume now after this adolescent and ignorant act.

USA Today reports:

A Pennsylvania police officer is facing fierce criticism after posting a picture in uniform on Snapchat with a racially charged message.

Melissa Adamson of McKeesport, Pa, posted a photo of herself on Snapchat in uniform with the caption “I’m the law today n****.” A screenshot of the photo was taken, and posted on other social media platforms, WTAE-TV reported.

“I’m not a racist,” Adamson told WTAE-TV. “That’s not how I plan on portraying myself.”

McKeesport Mayor Michael Cherepko said in a Facebook post that Adamson was recently hired as a part-time officer who was training as a probationary employee.

Adamson also resigned from a part-time police officer position she held in Versailles, Pa., according to WTAE-TV.

Adamson said it was a “stupid mistake,” to post the picture, and believes that a former co-worker circulated the photo, WTAE-TV reported.

“An altercation happened between me and a former police officer, and he’s … ruining my career, which has been done,” she said.
