A brawl broke out in Turkey’s parliament on Wednesday over the country’s involvement in Syria as President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss a ceasefire over increasing violence between Turkish and Syrian government forces in Idlib province. The fight began when opposition leader Engin Ozkoc took to the podium to criticize Turkey’s military intervention in northern Syria, calling Erdogan “dishonorable, ignoble, low and treacherous,” which was what Erdogan used earlier in the day to describe the opposition Republican People’s Party. The past month has seen at least 50 Turkish soldiers killed and dozens of others wounded during clashes with Syrian government forces, to which Turkey has responded by bombing hundreds of targets.
