Geraldo Rivera appeared as a guest panelist on FOX News’ The Five this week.
Rivera launched a mini-tirade about gun control at one point during the show, mocking people who own AR-15 and saying that guns should be banned.
On the other hand, Rivera made it abundantly clear that he had no idea what he was talking about.
Red State has details:
Rivera was attacking people who owned AR-15s, claiming it was about them acting “macho” and “look at me” to which Gutfeld said, “It’s [just] a rifle.”
“It’s not a rifle,” Rivera claimed, saying it was a “machine gun.”
“What does AR stand for?” Gutfeld asked him.
“Automatic rifle,” Rivera responded, getting it just ridiculously wrong.
“No, that’s not what it is,” Gutfeld said.
“All I know is is AR-15s have no place in American society, other than sport clubs,” Geraldo insisted.
All you know is nothing, Geraldo, so what you know isn’t worth much, given you think they’re machine guns. “AR” in AR-15 doesn’t stand for automatic rifle, it stands for “Armalite Rifle.”

So the gun people are in the replies telling you what AR actually stands for. But what's even more impressive about Geraldo is he thinks that the AR-15 is not a rifle while thinking the AR stands for Automatic Rifle. This is a wonderful clip for that logic alone https://t.co/s3FL35Rh27

Why do people who don’t know what they’re talking about insist on dictating to the rest of us?
Rivera later tweeted this:
Heard the Daily Caller and fellow travelers are ranting about my incorrect definition on-air of “AR” as in AR-15. Whatever. Point is, there is no place (other than sporting clubs and similar skilled settings) for assault rifles.
They’re substitute appendages.— Geraldo Rivera (@GeraldoRivera) January 18, 2023
Just drop it, Geraldo.
