CW3 RONELL LEFFEW RETIRES AND THEN WILL RIDE 1000 MILES
The Turning Point: A Never Quit Ride For Veterans
Trophy Club, Texas – CW3 Ronel Leffew retired on Friday, May 6, and sets out on a nine day 1000-mile bike ride down the east coast on Tuesday, May 10, in honor of Veterans everywhere and to highlight the journey home Veterans face when they transition from active military service to civilian life. CW3 Ronel Leffew is riding home to Sanford, Florida.
Leffew begins his ride in Springfield, Virginia. He sets out in the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 10, and plans to ride 109 miles in his first day. Along Leffew’s nine day ride he intends to highlight the various stages, as recognized by GallantFew, of Veteran wellness.
“The journey/ride home will speak to many aspects a soldier faces transitioning from the military from emotional, spiritual, physical, professional and social. I hope to bring light to the struggles Veterans face and let them know there are avenues for help if needed,” says CW3 Leffew.
CW3 Leffew’s ride takes him through various stops to include: Mechanicsville, VA; Halifax, NC; Fort Bragg, NC; Tuberville, SC; Waltersboro, SC; Savannah, GA; St. Mary’s, GA; Jacksonville, FL and will end in Sanford, FL. His ride timeline is posted at https://gallantfew.org/the-turning-point/.
Karl Monger, Executive Director of GallantFew says, “For real, lasting change in the challenges facing veterans, local communities have to take responsibility for reintegrating veterans to the community. The more our communities understand about the five points of Veteran wellness the better they will be able to assist along the Veteran’s transition home. Volunteers like Ronel are critical to educating and motivating people in their communities.”
It is 37 percent more likely for Global War on Terror Veterans to be unemployed than a person who never served and 22 Veterans take their lives every day. By providing peer support and access to health services GallantFew is doing its part to assist our veterans/address the unmet needs and lower these statistics facing our Veterans.
