The Apalachee High School Shooting: What We Know So Far

Police have confirmed there has been a shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. Video we’ve obtained shows parents waiting at the school as first responders continue to arrive.

During a press conference by the GBI, it was revealed that 2 teachers and 2 students were killed during the shooting at Apalachee High School on Wednesday morning. The FBI also released the suspect’s name – 14-year-old Colt Gray, a student at the high school.

Scanners indicate two people are dead and at least four are injured (preliminary). Police say one is in custody.

According to Barrow County Sheriff, “At approximately 10:23 a.m., officers from multiple law enforcement agencies and Fire/EMS personnel were dispatched to the high school in reference to a reported active shooting. At the time of this release, one suspect is in custody. Casualties have been reported, however details on the number or their conditions is not available at this time. This is an ongoing situation. Updates will be released when available.”

9:38 AM PDT Georgia Governor Brian Kemp said he “directed all available state resources to respond to the incident at Apalachee High School. We will continue to work with local, state, and federal partners as we gather information and further respond to this situation.”

9:48 AM PDT: Students speaking to reporters say at least two teachers were shot

11:15 AM PDT Georgia Bureau of Investigation: “Four dead. An additional nine taken to various hospitals with injuries. Suspect in custody and alive. During a press conference by the GBI, it was revealed that 2 teachers and 2 students were killed during the shooting at Apalachee High School on Wednesday morning. The FBI also released the suspect’s name – 14-year-old Colt Gray, a student at the high school.

A 14-year-old suspect, identified by Hosey as Colt Gray, a student at the school, was taken into custody alive. The alleged shooter will be tried for murder as an adult, said Hosey. The victims have not been identified.

“What you see behind us is an evil thing today,” said Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith at a news conference held Wednesday afternoon on school grounds. Smith told reporters that “we have multiple injuries” but did not share more information about the nature of them.

Two gunshot victims were taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Barrow and one gunshot victim was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville. All three had injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Multiple patients came into the hospital system with anxiety symptoms and others experiencing panic attacks, a spokesperson confirmed to CBS News. A spokesperson for Grady Health System, which operates Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, previously said staff had received one gunshot wound patient from the high school.
