An elderly man was injured after a package delivered to his home exploded inside his Philadelphia apartment, police said Tuesday.
(Developing)- The unidentified 62-year-old man injured his chest and both of his hands. His 36-year-old roommate was not injured in the blast. Nearby neighbors were evacuated from their homes, according to Fox 29 News.
The blast occurred at around 4 a.m. in the Rittenhouse Square neighborhood. Police believe the explosive package contained an inhaler. Fox 29 News reported that inhalers delivered in the mail had been known to explode in the past.
Authorities have not said what the official cause of the blast was.
The Philadelphia bomb squad and federal explosive investigators were on the scene.
