Once again, anti-gun Democrats are using the National Defense Authorization Act, or NDAA, to smuggle gun regulation into a package that must be passed. This is significant because it determines how our military is funded.
They attempted to enact a national “red flag” gun seizure clause last year. If it succeeds, you can bet on their utilizing this amendment to establish a scheme for so-called “safe storage” as justification for strict gun control.
The government would need to conduct inspections of individuals to determine how and where firearms are stored in order for this to be put into effect. Even though it’s a voluntary program, this establishes a precedent that will allow the government to determine the best way to search your home and determine how many firearms you own, where you keep them, and how you have access to them.
This amendment does not attack the core causes of the high service member suicide rate, as its proponents claim it does. This proposal would place the blame for such tragedies on the tool rather than the underlying issue, instead of really assisting members. The epidemic of suicide in our military cannot be solved by taking away our service members’ liberties.
Despite all of that, this disgusting bill has passed.
What makes it even worse is that 176 Republicans linked arms to make it happen.
The war on our rights continues and we must fight back.
