A 16-year-old boy high on LSD shot himself dead on Thursday morning after firing on cops called by his grandmother who was left terrified by his paranoid trip.
West Melbourne police announced the teen’s death in a tweet at shortly after 6:30am Thursday.
The teen has been identified as 16-year-old Michael Proctor.
His grandmother, who was inside the home at the time of the incident, said he had used LSD hours before he killed himself.
‘He was a good kid; he did good in school,’ Gregory Proctor, the teen’s father, told Florida Today.
‘He was on drugs, and it made him violent.’
Lorene Powers, the boy’s grandmother, said it was the first time he had used LSD.
‘He just got scared,’ she said.
Officers arrived at the home just before midnight after the grandmother called 911, telling dispatchers her grandson was throwing things inside the home.
Powers, her daughter Libby Morey, and her son, who is deaf, were in the home with Michael Proctor at the time of the incident.
Libby told Florida Today her deaf brother was woken up by police hours after the shots were fired.
Police went to the neighborhood and were interviewing residents of the house when Proctor came out of a back bedroom and started firing a gun, according to a police report.
The officers retreated toward the front door with three other residents of the home as he kept firing.
No one was injured and police did not return fire.
