BREAKING!
ALTON — Two individuals were taken into custody Wednesday after a narcotics-related raid, and subsequent traffic stop, in Alton.
A multi-agency Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System (ILEAS) team, in conjunction with Alton police and Illinois State Police, raided a house in the 100 block of West Ninth Street in Alton at approximately 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, according to Alton Police Chief Jason “Jake” Simmons. The narcotics-related search warrant was executed and an individual was taken into custody without incident, Simmons said.
Around the same time, a person was taken into custody — and a bag full of cash was confiscated from the vehicle, according to a Telegraph photographer at the scene — after a Chevy Tahoe was stopped on Piasa Street between Fourth and Fifth streets. Simmons said the individual was also living at the West Ninth Street house and had left the house shortly before the search warrant was executed. He declined to comment on anything possibly seized during the traffic stop.
Simmons said the identity of the individuals arrested won’t be released until formal charges are brought. He anticipated charges might be filed as early as Thursday.
The raid was the result of roughly 30 days of police work by Alton’s drug unit, Simmons said.
