Blanket Anti-Gun Law Went Into Effect January 1: We Can’t Let This Spread

On January 1st, a new gun control law that practically bans all firearms went into force in one Californian city.

NBC Bay Area reports that the new rule in San Jose requires all gun owners to provide proof of insurance coverage for accidents involving weapons and to pay a $25 yearly charge to the city.

No matter what kind of gun a person owns, the new regulation is applicable to all San Jose gun owners.

“We think that insurance is a particularly effective instrument to decrease the harm that arises from irresponsible or reckless use of guns in the same way that we’ve seen insurance be quite helpful in decreasing auto-related deaths,” Mayor Sam Liccardo said in reference to the new policy.

It won’t be difficult for people to obtain insurance, according to Campus Insurance Services president Erik Dandurand, as the majority of homeowner and renter insurance policies already include the coverage that is necessary under the new law.

“Because these policies include a coverage called comprehensive personal liability, and it covers pretty much anything that can happen that you can be liable for here and around the world,” Dandurand told NBC Bay Area.

Yet not everyone sees a new law this way. Many gun owners groups have voiced their opposition to the new law, saying that the insurance requirement and annual fees will be an onerous burden on low-income gun owners.

Essentially, this bill is a backdoor way for California leftists to make gun ownership unaffordable for low-income people, who cannot afford the costly insurance or pay the $25 annual fee.

So while it is true that this new law does not ban guns in San Jose outright, it serves as a sneaky way for the left to implement their unconstitutional agenda.

Even though it only applies to one city at the moment, this new rule may serve as a template for other liberal cities and states who are desperately trying to implement anti-gun legislation.

Therefore, it is crucial that this law is challenged in court because if it isn’t, other regions of the nation might believe they can do the same thing without getting caught.

The law in San Jose is representative of a general trend. Due to ambiguous regulations or onerous bureaucracy, numerous new laws that were essentially backdoor gun bans were passed or introduced in the past year.

For instance, Measure 114, which mandates that police maintain an electronic database of gun permits, obtain fingerprints from applicants before issuing permits, and provide hands-on firearms training, was approved by Oregon voters in the 2022 midterm elections.

Because of the numerous requirements that must be met in order to receive a gun permit under this rule, many persons who lack the time or resources to do so will be unable to own a handgun.

Democrats in Michigan introduced HB 6544, which would outlaw “assault weapons,” in the meantime. However, the bill’s definition of an “assault weapon” is extremely ambiguous and may be used to justify the outlawing of virtually any firearm.

There is little doubt that the Democrats are committed to outlawing firearms. It’s time to name these new regulations for what they are: cunning attempts by the extreme left to undermine the Second Amendment.
