There are reports of shots fired at Dalton High School in Dalton, Georgia.
UPDATE: During a press conference, officials say a social studies teacher identified as Randall Davidson barricaded himself in a classroom and would not let students in. A principal attempted to enter the room, and a shot was fired. Officials say the teacher did not intend to have children involved or in the classroom. After a short standoff, the teacher gave up and came out of the classroom. Video of a press conference is below.
ORIGINAL STORY: Police on the scene report that a teacher with a gun barricaded himself in a classroom.
The teacher is now in custody. It is believed the teacher is male.
The unusual situation comes days after President Trump suggested arming teachers who are adept at using firearms, in an effort to deter school shooters. Gun control advocates will likely jump on this incident as proof teachers should not be armed. It will also spark speculation among some that the incident appears a bit too convenient, given the current discussion.
One student injured an ankle while running out of the school.
Dalton is located 90 miles north of Atlanta. The school has nearly 2,000 students enrolled, according to its website. The school is on lockdown, and students are being taken to a local trade center to be picked up by parents.
There are some pictures from the scene coming out, via Twitter.
