Your basic everyday belt from sears is not made to support the extra weight of your weapon or edc gear. It will bend and flex and leave you in discomfort. Eventually it will crack and tear. EDC belts however are built tough. Usually reinforced with extra material on the outside or inside the belt. This keeps the belt from bending and flexing which usually alleviates the discomforts associated with using a regular belt not to mention the inevitable failure down the road.
