Chibok girl snatched by Boko Haram found alive and pregnant, relative says
(FOX)- Nigerian soldiers have rescued the first of the 219 schoolgirls who were kidnapped by Boko Haram extremists in 2014, and she is pregnant and traumatized but otherwise fine, her uncle says.
Amina Ali Nkeki is the only one of the Chibok girls to be freed since the mass abduction that grabbed attention around the world more than two years ago, The Associated Press reported Wednesday.
She was found wandering in the forest, her uncle Yakubu Nkeki said. He added that the 19-year-old — she was 17 when she was abducted — was brought to Chibok Tuesday night for her identity to be verified and to be reunited with her mother. Her father died while she was held captive, he said.
He said the soldiers then took the young woman away, apparently to a military camp in the town of Damboa.
Activists told the BBC that the girl was identified by a civilian who was part of a vigilante group set up to help fight Boko Haram. She is expected to be transported soon to Maiduguri, the capital of the Borno State.
