Two Cambridge High School students were arrested Tuesday after the administration found two guns at the Garden City, Mich. school.
(MLive)- School officials do not believe the students planned to harm other students or staff members by using the guns in the school.
According to a release from Derek Fisher, Garden City Public Schools superintendent, the school was placed on lockdown at around 9:20 a.m. Tuesday so school officials could “conduct and investigation” that turned up two firearms.
Two students, who have not been named, were arrested by the Garden City Police Department.
According to a report from Hometown Life, one of the guns was found in the school and the second was recovered outside, but on school grounds. Fisher told Hometown Life that the school district will proceed with expulsion procedures following the students’ release.
The investigation was prompted, according to other reports, by an administrator becoming suspicious of the students’ behavior, which prompted the search.
In a Tuesday statement, Fisher said the school would follow up with a statement once more information became available.
The school district on Thursday would not release the ages of the students who were arrested in relation to the weapons.
The Garden City Police Department could not be reached for comment Thursday.
