The campaign of President Joe Biden is rousing from its slumber and promising to “finish the job” on gun control as a key component of his appeal to be reappointed to the presidency for an additional four years.
The Biden-Harris campaign for reelection is distributing memoranda and contacting supportive media outlets to argue that President Biden will implement gun control’s extreme, unconstitutional agenda if given a second term.
This includes outlawing the Modern Sporting Rifle (MSR), the centerfire rifle that is most popularly sold in America.
That also entails going against Congress’s wishes. While highlighting bipartisan efforts, White House officials are making it plain that they are prepared to act unilaterally in the event that Congress refuses to comply with their requests.
“The president demonstrated that he can get things done, working across party lines when necessary, on our own where we can’t,” White House Deputy Chief of Staff Bruce Reed told The Messenger.
About guns, President Biden has already made it plain that he is not paying attention to the opinions of American citizens. According to a nationwide survey by NBC News, the majority of Americans are first-time gun owners.
However, the Biden-Harris reelection campaign will rely on the political advantages they have provided for gun control advocates, particularly from wealthy backers who demand a return on their political investment.
Even the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) acknowledged that the 1994 assault weapons ban had no impact on lowering crime rates, but President Biden has persisted in urging Congress to reinstate it.
“Who the hell needs an assault weapon that can hold, in some cases, up to 100 rounds?” President Biden said just last month. This is the line of attack that he’s coupled with veiled threats of using U.S. military force against its own citizens.
“If you wanted or if you think you need to have weapons to take on the government, you need F-15s and maybe some nuclear weapons,” he said in 2021.
Since referring to the makers of firearms as “the enemy” and most recently suspending the export of American firearms without providing an explanation, President Biden has made attacking the weapon industry a key component of his administration.
In the meantime, he has encouraged the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) to implement a “zero-tolerance” approach against the gun business, which has resulted in a dramatic rise in the number of federal firearms licenses being canceled or turned in for small administrative mistakes.
Because they disagree with Second Amendment rights, President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris pledged to utilize the ATF as a blunt tool to punish the firearms business.
The ATF has released two Final Rules, one of which outlaws handguns with bracing attached and the other of which redefines frames and receivers. Both have encountered legal challenges, with different judges ruling that the ATF exceeded its jurisdiction to enact criminal laws without consulting or receiving approval from Congress.
Congress must draft legislation, and the Executive Branch must then implement it. Without a congressional vote, both Final Rules established criminal sanctions.
In his most recent speech to Harvard University, ATF Director Steven Dettelbach renounced his promise to U.S. Senators to “use the tools Congress gives” and instead pushed for further gun control.
He informed the crowd that he supported the administration’s efforts to advocate for both universal background checks and an MSR ban. Both would raise questions about the Constitution.
In the Heller decision, the US Supreme Court ruled that the government cannot outright outlaw a certain type of firearm and that a national firearm registry is required for universal background checks to be implemented. Federal law still forbids that.
