Kansas police Solves His Own Murder

This article was edited May 8th 2020 after receiving new facts.

Sometimes a bad guy runs into a warrior cop.  A cop with a never quit mentality.  A cop with a never off duty mentality.  That is what happened Sunday when off duty Overland Park Police Officer Mike Mosher witnessed a hit and run as he was reportedly on his way to work.  He followed and made contact with the hit and run driver, identifying himself as a police officer and affected a traffic stop.  During that traffic stop, the offender started firing and a gunfight ensued.  The details of the gunfight are still in the wind, however after the smoke cleared, the bad guy was down hard and Mike had been critically wounded.  Mike was struck twice, once in his vest and the second round struck his right clavicle shattering it and severing a artery in his right lung. Mike died at the scene quickly but before he did he hid his pistol underneath his leg. We can only assume he did this to prevent the bad guy from finding it however Mike may not have been aware of his success. The bad guy fired four shots striking Mike twice. Mike fired 5 shots all connecting with the bad guy, two to the femoral and 3 in a nice tight grouping on his chest center mass.

Mike was not your average cop.  Mike was a friend of mine.  He was a skilled firearms instructor and had been involved in at least one other shootout that I know of in which he came out the victor.  I have been told today that there were others.  Not only was Mike a firearms instructor, his wife is also a well known firearms instructor and competitive shooter Corinne Mosher.

Visitation is planned for next Tuesday 5/12 with Service Wednesday 5/13 tenatively.  We will update this story as we learn more.

We plan to help raise money for Corinne and her 12 year old daughter.  We will announce when the method is official.  PLEASE SHARE THIS STORY.

According to Fox News

A veteran Kansas cop who was named his department’s officer of the year in 2019 was killed in a shootout with a hit-and-run suspect over the weekend.

Overland Park Officer Mike Mosher, 37, passed away Sunday evening at a hospital while surrounded by his wife and daughter, according to FOX4KC. Earlier that day, Mosher was off-duty but in uniform when he saw an apparent hit-and-run and pursued the suspect, which led to a shootout, police say.

“He did his job all the way up to the end, so I got to respect an officer like that,” Officer John Lacy, the department’s spokesperson, told FOX4KC. “He was a true gentleman. He was a wonderful officer.”

Overland Park police say the suspect – whose name has not yet been released – died at the scene. It’s not clear what led to the exchange of gunfire and further details about the hit-and-run incident were not immediately available.

Mosher had been with the Overland Park department for nearly 15 years and was named its officer of the year in 2019.

“I know that I speak for Mike when I say that he was proud to be a police officer. It’s all he ever wanted to do. He loved what he did,” Police Chief Frank Donchez said, adding that Mosher was good at his job.

RETRACTION – Originally we reported Mike lived until he reached the hospital and was able to say goodbye to his family. Unfortunately this was not the case.
