Aero Precision discontinues all production of .224 valkyrie. Why would Aero discontinue such a new and “innovative” round this soon when it’s only been out for a few years? Sadly, the truth is .224 isn’t all it was cracked up to be.
Though the .224 isn’t completely dead (yet) this round came up a day late and a dollar short: between issues with reamers and chambering having too much freebore resulting in 2-3 MOA groups, and the fact it came out about the same time as rounds like 22 nosler (better B.C and less bullet drop) that were getting sub-MOA accuracy.
Add in the fact that simply put, most people wanting a long distance precision round are going to go with the AR-10 platform, not the AR-15. Am I saying .224 is completely dead? No, not yet anyways. But when a giant in the industry such as Aero Precision dumps an entire caliber from their line-up, it’s not good.
