Rhode Island has one of the most jacked up requirements to buy a gun anywhere in the country. It’s a requirement that you provide proof you’ve undergone a firearm safety course just to purchase a firearm. It’s something that would be tolerated for no other right, but for guns it’s a whole different kettle of fish.
However, despite that bit of draconian regulation, it seems lawmakers in the state are less than satisfied.
Rhode Island’s Democratic governor and attorney general are asking state lawmakers to pass a group of bills they feel will help curb gun violence.
Gov. Gina Raimondo and Attorney General Peter Neronha said Thursday they’re supporting eight gun-control bills. “These bills and more to come will save lives,” Raimondo said. “We know that.
The bills would ban military-style assault weapons, high-capacity magazines and 3D-printed guns, as well as require gun sellers to send firearm purchase applications to police departments where the buyer lives.
