The Cherokee Nation is Pissed at Sen. Elizabeth Warren!

Gee I wonder why…

Sen. Elizabeth Warren released the results of a DNA test allegedly showing she has Native American ancestry. The results of a genetic ancestry analysis conducted by Stanford University professor Carlos D. Bustamante to The Boston Globe, which shows with 99% certainty that Warren is 95% European. Further evidence shows this additional 5% ancestry is ‘likely Native American.’ Later it was found that she really only had around 1/64 to 1/1024 Native heritage, which means she has as much Native heritage as the average white American, basically it comes down to her claim to be a Cherokee has been debunked by her own DNA test… and to make it even more hilarious. Its not even Native American DNA. According to Breitbart hidden in the Boston Globes story is this little gem as well  “To make up for the dearth of Native American DNA, Bustamante used samples from Mexico, Peru, and Colombia to stand in for Native American.” This proves that she may only be a percentage of Mexican, Peruvian, or Colombian… Not native american.  To add insult to injury Warren has pissed off The Cherokee Nation  and they aren’t having any of it. In a statement released by Cherokee Nation Secretary of State Chuck Hoskin, Jr. writes, “A DNA test is useless to determine tribal citizenship. Current DNA tests do not even distinguish whether a person’s ancestors were indigenous to North or South America.”

The Cherokee Nation has issued a statement responding to the report:

“A DNA test is useless to determine tribal citizenship. Current DNA tests do not even distinguish whether a person’s ancestors were indigenous to North or South America. Sovereign tribal nations set their own legal requirements for citizenship, and while DNA tests can be used to determine lineage, such as paternity to an individual, it is not evidence for tribal affiliation. Using a DNA test to lay claim to any connection to the Cherokee Nation or any tribal nation, even vaguely, is inappropriate and wrong.1 It makes a mockery out of DNA tests and its legitimate uses while also dishonoring legitimate tribal governments and their citizens, who ancestors are well documented and whose heritage is prove. Senator Warren is undermining tribal interests with her continued claims of tribal heritage.”
