2 people slain in Canton stabbings; suspect in custody

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Canton Police Department are working to piece together what led to the apparent fatal stabbing of two residents inside an apartment unit.

(Patch)- Canton police responded to a call of an assault around 1:30 a.m. Friday, July 22 in building 3000 at Laurels at Greenwood Apartments at 1215 Hickory Flat Highway.

Officers arrived on the scene to find one man and woman “lying in the breezeway of the third floor,” Canton police said. The agency noted the victims are believed to be Hispanic.

The pair had stab wounds. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the woman was transported to Northside Hospital-Cherokee, where she was pronounced dead.

One suspect has been taken into custody, and an autopsy will be conducted by the GBI’s Crime Lab to determine an exact cause of death.

The investigation remains active, and anyone who has information is asked to contact Canton police at (678) 493-4080 or the GBI Tip Line at 1-800-597-8477.
