At least 13 people were killed and another 52 wounded in shootings in Chicago over the Labor Day weekend,Chicago police said.
(ABC)- On the West Side, five people were shot, two fatally, late Monday night. Police said the group was standing on a sidewalk in the 2700-block of Lexington Street at about 10:45 p.m. when a silver mini-van pulled up and someone inside fired shots at the group.
Two men, both 22, died. Police said one was a gang member. A 16-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was shot in the chest, a 17-year-old boy was shot in the chest and is in serious condition and a 20-year-old man was shot in the arm and backside and is in serious condition.
Late Tuesday evening, a man was shot while driving on the Dan Ryan Expressway. The shooting occurred near 83rd Street at about 11:24 a.m., police said. His injuries are described as non-life threatening.
In another shooting near 53rd and Sangamon streets, a pregnant woman and her boyfriend were shot in the middle of the afternoon Monday. Crystal Meyers, 23, was shot in the stomach and transported to Stroger Hospital in serious condition. Her boyfriend, Albert Moore, was shot and is also in critical condition at Stroger Hospital.
Hours earlier in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side, the roommates of a 22-year-old Enrique D. Morales found him dead about 1:30 p.m. on their driveway in the 4500-block of South Whipple, according to police and the medical examiner’s office. Morales was shot in the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:45 p.m. Area Central detectives were conducting a homicide investigation.
Monday morning, a man was killed and another wounded in more Englewood violence. David Baldwin, 24, was shot in the head about 9:30 a.m. in the 6800-block of South Emerald and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died at 2:58 p.m., authorities said. He lived in the 1100 block of West 67th Street. Another man, 26, was shot in the thigh and grazed across the face. His condition was stabilized at Stroger Hospital, but he was uncooperative with investigators, police said.
