Police body-cam footage has been released of a Florida man being apprehended after trying to hide in a swamp.
Paul Daniel Smith, 34, had been evading arrest when the officers caught up to him. Video shows, once they reach him, that he is almost completely submerged in the muddy water.
Smith can be heard asking officers to tase him so he can go to the hospital.
He also is seen asking officers to not ‘cuff me too tight’ as a K-9 named Knox sniffs and licks his face.
The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said it received a domestic disturbance call on Tuesday, reported the Tampa Bay Times.
After deputies answered the call and spoke with Smith, they realized his license plates were stolen and attempted to arrest him.
According to deputies, he battered an officer and fled with a woman in his blue Ford F-150 pickup truck.
A high-speed chase ensued and Smith struck a pole, a mailbox, and almost deputies as he tried to evade capture.
Deputy Rob Wilkins, Corporal Andrew Denbo and K-9 Knox searched and found Smith nearly fully submerged in muddy water with only his head sticking out (above)
