William Kyle Carpenter is one of a select few individuals who are still alive to receive their Medal of Honor. This man is a great patriot and an inspiration to us all. He alone has had over 30 broken bones in just his right arm, and has a collapsed right lung. He spent over 3 years enduring facial reconstruction surgeries having shrapnel from his brain and other facial areas. The bulk of it was having most of his jaw replaced which took around 40 surgeries total.
Even through all of the turmoil when he was initially injured they had called him PEA (patient expired on arrival) and had flat lined a total of 3 times before making it out. When David Letterman asked him about his first waking moments from his trauma, William talked about how his mother had transformed his hospital room to fit the Christmas spirit and he had a stocking hanging in his room for all of his family members.
