A man shot a sheriff’s deputy who was responding to a break-in call at a Virginia home, authorities said.
(FOX)- The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that the deputy responded to a breaking and entering report Tuesday night in Stafford. That’s when officials said a man fired multiple shots at the deputy, injuring him “extensively.”
Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman M.C. Morris Moncure said by telephone that the deputy’s injuries are serious, but not life-threatening. She said it’s still not clear whether the deputy fired any shots.
The sheriff’s office announced early Wednesday that authorities had arrested a suspect in the shooting, 18-year-old Joshua Anthony Sumter, who was sought on warrants for attempted capital murder.
Moncure said Sumter was arrested without incident or injury.
