US soldier dies in non-combat incident

A member of the U.S. military has died while deployed to the east African nation of Djibouti, the Pentagon announced Friday.

The death was described as a “non-combat related incident,” officials said. The service member, who was not identified, died Thursday.

“The cause of death is under investigation,” officials said in a release. “Further information will be released as appropriate.”

Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti is the headquarters for Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa, a unit created in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks as part of the Defense Department’s Global War on Terror. Roughly 2,000 personnel are assigned to the command.
