Two officers shot in Arkansas, suspect not in custody

At least two Arkansas police officers — including the Hackett chief of police — were shot in Sebastian County on Wednesday and authorities were descending on the location where the suspected shooter was believed to be holed up.

(FOX)- Authorities were at the home of the suspected shooter on Wednesday morning, though that person was not in police custody, sheriff’s spokesman Philip Pevehouse said, 40/29 News reported.

Three local departments and the state police were responding to the incident. Two police helicopters had been deployed and The Arkansas Democrat-Gazettesaid a SWAT team was reportedly on scene.

Police said the shooter was carrying a semi-automatic weapon,NEWS5 reported.

No information was given on the condition of the officers, who were both taken to Sparks Hospital in Fort Smith, NEWS5 reported.

A person who answered the phone at the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office declined to provide further information on the incident and told FoxNews.com that the department was “under emergency.”

The shooting occurred at the intersection of Highway 253 and Boone Road in Hackett around 7:15 a.m., NEWS5 reported.
