A man wearing body armor and armed with a AR with a drum mag was shot after pointing the weapon and firing on responding officers. The suspect later succumbed to his injuries.
According to the Pasadena star news Pasadena police on Wednesday released videos and 911 calls related to a May 17 standoff with an armed man wearing a bulletproof vest that ended with three officers fatally shooting the man.
Daniel Warren, 36, of Pasadena died from gunshot wounds to his left armpit and right thigh, according to the coroner’s office.
The department released what it called a “Critical Incident Community Briefing” video summarizing what occurred on May 17. Police said the video is based on a preliminary review of the incident. Police also released three 911 calls, radio communication between dispatchers and officers, eight body-cam videos as well as photos of the handgun, a rifle with a drum-style magazine and a bullet proof vest.
No officers were wounded in the shooting on the 1500 block of Glen Avenue, north of Howard Street. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau, the District Attorney’s Office Officer Involved Shooting Team and the Pasadena Police professional standards detectives are investigating the shooting.
A man called Pasadena police at 12:35 p.m. on May 17 and said a man in a black Lexus at Glen Avenue and Howard Street was talking about “gang this and gang that”, cursing, yelling at kids walking by and also threatened a UPS driver. But officers didn’t see the suspect who wore red, or the car.
