The common misconception among the general populous is that our military members, law enforcement agents, private security contractors, and really anyone that carries a gun for a living are barbaric and blood thirsty individuals. While the paths that were chosen for us require us to thrive in brutal and violent situations, those situations do not always dictate our lives.

Yes, we live by a different code than most. Yes, we can be crude and insensitive and yes, we can be violent. Our main purpose, however, the thing that keeps driving us forward, is something of a compassionate nature. We strive for the protection of life, not the destruction of it. We willingly throw ourselves and our lives into living nightmares. We do this, for you. For our families, our friends, our loved ones and those that we hold most dear.

I, nor do any of us, seek glorification or gratitude. I am not preaching to you, I am not looking to defend myself or seek praise. I merely am offering an inside perspective. I fully understand that I sacrifice my life for my family’s. For my parents and above all my little sister. Life is a beautifully delicate thing that ALL of us, no matter how hard we fight to deny it, take for granted. Someone once said that ” What greater love is there, than to lay down your life for another. ” I live by that verse, I will die by that verse.

If you’re still reading to this point, know this. You are loved. You are loved by thousands and thousands of people who are willing to sacrifice their lives to insure you live yours. Do not mourn for the lost, rejoice in the fact that they have completed their mission. Rejoice in the fact that you have a full life in front of you. Full of love, happiness, and compassion. Full of heartbreak and pain. Rejoice you have the ability to feel all of those emotions.

The one wish, if I could have any, that I would ask all of you to fulfill is to live a life of purpose. My purpose, and those like me, is to make sure you have that option. What’s yours?

John 15:13
Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
