Police evacuated residents of at least one building in a German town Saturday morning as they fanned out to search for a terror suspect linked to an alleged bomb plot.
(CBS)- “We are carrying out a large operation in Chemnitz following suspicion of preparations for a bomb attack,” the Saxony Police said in a stream of tweets. “A person of interest could not be found.”
“Major road closures and evacuations are necessary,” a police spokesperson told the British newspaper The Independent. “Please stay within the cordoned-off areas in your homes and follow the instructions of police.”
Police officers forcefully entered a building in the Fritz-Heckert-Gebiet neighborhood of Chemnitz using a small explosion to break in. It was that building where they searched for the unidentified suspect.
Police did not immediately provide any information on how they learned of the alleged threat, or whether any explosives had been found.
