A disabled Navy veteran who fought for his country in the Gulf War now finds himself living in a Denver storage unit he calls “home sweet hell.”
This is just one of the many stories about the complete and utter lack of help that Veterans are getting in this country. It saddens me and angers me at the same time.
While the VA touts benefits like VA Home Loans and healthy care, it’s executives get away with fraud and neglect of VA Patients. Simultaneously, “Veterans Non-Profits” donate less than 10% of their funds received as donations, there’s THIS. Crap like this is the reality of the true hardships that Veterans go through. And I’m SICK AND TIRED OF IT.
Illegal Aliens, Refugees and Welfare abusers get waited on hand and foot, meanwhile the men and women that served our nation get left out in the cold. Or in this case a storage container.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
Chris Cline told KMGH Denver 7 he’s been living in the 70 square-foot windowless unit with his dog for almost two years, which is filled with all his personal items.
Cline said he has a full time job and a car, but the metal box is the best he can do in a place like Denver with rising housing prices.
“It isn’t an easy life by any means,” he told the television station. “It’s not something I would choose.”
The Navy veteran said he’d like some help with housing, but the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and another organization haven’t come through yet with any assistance.
With his family living out of state, his current living situation is what exists for the foreseeable future.
“This is not a choice for me. This is survival,” Cline said.
