MAN FOUND WALKING DOWN HIGHWAY NAKED, CAUSES EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO COP CAR

OCALA, FLORIDA —  On Wednesday, June 7, 2017, Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies arrested 18-year old Andrew Humphries on several Criminal Mischief charges after he ripped a door handle off a vehicle parked at the MCSO South Multi-District Office and caused severe damage to a MCSO patrol vehicle door while he was in custody. Humphries had left the scene of a vehicle accident and was walking down South U.S. Highway 441 naked when deputies made contact with him.

At approximately 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, MCSO deputies responded to the area of SE 81th Street and South U.S. Highway 441 to assist Marion County Fire Rescue with a vehicle accident. While en route, deputies learned that the driver of one of the vehicles fled the scene on foot. Responding Deputy Peterson found the subject, later identified as Humphries, in the 8900 block of South Highway 441 walking down the road completely nude. Concerned for Humphries’ well-being, Deputy Peterson exited his vehicle and made contact with him. Humphries then walked to the front of Deputy Peterson’s patrol vehicle and tried to open the driver’s door, which was locked. Due to his erratic behavior, Humphries was placed in handcuffs and secured in the back of Deputy Peterson’s patrol vehicle. Humphries then began kicking the rear passenger door of the patrol car and pulling on the metal cage, causing $1,000.00 in damage. Deputies believe the entire door will most likely need to be replaced. Humphries was placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail.

While leaving the Marion County Jail, Deputy Peterson received a phone call from the Florida Highway Patrol, saying that while they were investigating the crash Humphries was involved in, they spoke to witnesses who said that when Humphries left the scene, he walked up to a vehicle parked at the MCSO South Multi-District Office. Humphries attempted to open the door to the car and he pulled the door handle off the vehicle. Witnesses added that when he couldn’t get into the car, Humphries then urinated on the vehicle. That vehicle belongs to a MCSO deputy, who estimates the damage to his car is valued at approximately $700.00.
