Elizabeth Carter, a lieutenant with the Texas Department of Public Safety, said someone brought a gun onto the Alpine High School campus Thursday morning. Ruth Hucke, a spokeswoman for Big Bend Regional Medical Center in Alpine, said hospital personnel were tending to three “victims.”
Hucke declined to say how the victims were injured or further identify them. When asked if the victims had been shot, Hucke said she “can’t say anything further.” Hucke said the hospital would provide a statement later Thursday. She had no additional details.
Police dispatcher Scarlet Eldred said an unspecified incident took place at the high school shortly before 9 a.m. Eldred says police were seeking an “active shooter.” Eldred didn’t immediately provide additional information, other than the person being sought was a male.

Big Bend Regional Medical Center in Alpine, Texas, was treating three victims Thursday after a shooting at a local high school, the Associated Press reported. A spokeswoman told the AP she couldn’t give further details.
Evacuated Alpine High School students were at Jehovah’s Witness church near by, according to the Alpine Avalanche. Sul Ross State University was on lockdown, as well.

information gleaned from social media that suggests that the deceased shooter is a female Hispanic student, and may be a junior at the school.
In addition to the injured and dead students, a responding deputy managed to have a negligent discharge and wounded himself.
His condition is not known at this time.

UPDATE 11:00 One person is dead after Thursday morning’s shooting at Texas’ Alpine High School, according to Brewster County Attorney J. Steve Houston. The shooting happened in the school’s band hall, Houston said.
A shooter opened fire at Alpine High School in Alpine, Texas Thursday morning, police confirmed.
Alpine Police told the Daily News there was an active shooter at the school, and other schools in the district are in lockdown.
The Brewster County Sheriff’s Office told The News there could be two shooting suspects, and that at least one person was taken to a hospital.
There have been no confirmed reports of arrests or shooting victims.
A public radio reporter in Marfa, about 30 miles west of Alpine, tweeted that one student was injured and the shooter died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot.

Alpine is a town of 5,900 residents in western Texas, about 200 miles southeast of El Paso.
Classes in the school district began Aug. 22. The district — comprising only one elementary, middle and high school — has about 1,000 students, according to its website.
Sul Ross State University in Alpine said there was “an active shooter threat” on the campus, and went into lockdown. Authorities have not confirmed an attack at the college.
