Picking a good piece of glass for your long range rifle can be a challenge. Quite often in the world of long range optics nothing below 2 grand is going to give you the features you need. First Focal Plane and zero stops are one of the first things that come to mind that are highly desired in a precision rifle optic! On optics with First Focal Plane the reticle appears to grow larger or smaller as the scope’s magnification is increased or decreased. However, the reticle maintains the same perspective with the target size throughout the magnification range. That means the holdover points remain the same throughout the range of magnification. With SFP you will have to recalculate every time you change the magnification.
Zero stops are another great addition, especially for people like me who are prone to forget shit at any given moment. For example, you can make your adjustments for 600, down to 450, then maybe to 700 yards. Then If you need to get back to zero all you have to do is turn the turrets back down to zero. No guessing where it may be or trying to remember how many mils or moa you adjusted. It may be a little tricky to initially set up but is well worth the trouble and extra money!
One great Optic that will not set you back too bad and offer these features plus more is the…

Side Focus | Adjustment located on left side of turret housing is easily accessible from shooting position. Provides optimal image focus and parallax removal. |
INTERNAL MECHANISM DESIGN FEATURES |
|
RZR Zero Stop | Rapid Zero Return (RZR) feature stops the turret from dialing below sight in range using rugged steel components. Internal mechanisms stay free of sand, dirt, dust, moisture and other foreign materials—even when setting the zero-stop position. Friction Reduction System | Heat-treated, hardened-steel pad floats on the end of the turret screw and interfaces with a hardened steel ring on the erector tube for steel-on-steel contact. Prevents galling or deformation of the erector screw contact point for superior durability and repeatability. US Patent 7,958,665 |
Turret Screws | Provides low-friction, wear-resistant performance: precision-machined from a silicon-brass alloy and treated with an advanced dry-film lubricant. Turret screw threads are precision machined to sub-2 micron tolerances (less than 78-millionths of an inch). Ultra-smooth operation and adjustments. |
Erector Tube System | Precision-machined from premium brass alloy with anti-galling properties for strength and durability. The chromium vanadium erector spring withstands compression, has high fatigue resistance and is tumble-polished to a mirror finish for micro-precise elevation and windage adjustments. |

This scope was an absolute pleasure to shoot with. The adjustments were crisp and with the zero stop disengaged you are able to make precision adjustments while zeroing your rifle! The glass is crystal clear and allows for more than enough light to come in giving you the best possible sight picture. I have ran everything from budget glass like your swfas, Millets, all the way up to your higher end like leupolds and nightforce. The Vortex is hands down my favorite of the bunch. It will probably be in my safe for a very long time. For the price it cant be beat!
