Yorkville police now say that a weapon was discharged during an incident Sunday night in the general area of Yorkville High School Academy and City Hall.
Initial reports were that there was a domestic incident that did not involve a weapon. However, police arrested a man on weapons charges and other charges following an incident.
William Larson, 32, of the 500 block of West Barberry Lane, Yorkville, was arrested and charged with Larson was eventually charged with unlawful use of a weapon, resisting a peace officer, and criminal trespass to state-supported property, according to police.
Police said that at around 5:40 p..m. on Oct. 22, officers standing outside of the Yorkville police station, which is in the same building as City Hall, heard “possibly four gunshots from the area immediately around the (police station building).”
Police said shortly after they heard the shots, officers “observed a male running through a field towards the Beecher Center baseball area.” No games were taking place at the time, police said.
When officers reached Larson, he refused to stop and ran from officers, eventually climbing a fence to elude police, police said. During Larson’s arrest, he caused a minor injury to an officer, police said.
During further investigation, it was found that Larson fired the weapon into the ground, police said. Police said Larson made statements that he “had no intentions to harm anyone.”
