ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis police officer who was shot in the shoulder after a traffic stop has been released from the hospital, officials say.
Two officers in a marked patrol vehicle pulled over an older model red Chevrolet Impala for driving without plates in the area of Cass and Broadway about 9:15 p.m. Sunday night near Broadway and Cass.
The car initially pulled over, but then the vehicle sped off and the officers followed. Bullets came from the suspect’s car through the police vehicle’s windshield and hit a St. Louis police officer in the right shoulder.
The officer’s vehicle was shot at in the area of 20th and Prairie. The officer driving was not injured. There are several bullet holes in the patrol car. Officers believe the passenger in the suspect’s vehicle was the one responsible for the shooting.

The officer is conscious and breathing. He is 35 years old and is in stable condition. Chief Hayden said he has been able to talk to the officer.
Officers recovered the vehicle but have not located the people that were inside the red Impala.
St. Louis City Mayor Lyda Krewson was seen outside the hospital emergency room along with other officers showing their support.
This is the 9th officer shot since June 1 in the St. Louis Metro Police Department.
