Alfred Newman, 94, passed away Sunday at a nursing home in Bloomfield, New Mexico. He used his native language to outsmart the Japanese in World War II. Mr. Newman served from ’43 to ’45 ,seeing action in bougainville Island, Iwo Jima, Kwajalein Atoll, Guam, New Caledonia, Enewetak, and New Georgia. He is survived by Betsy, his wife of 69 years. 5 children: five children: Alfred Jr., Marvin, Cherylin, Donovan and Kevin.
For their clever encruption system that confused the hell out of the enemy as well as their courage in combat the Code talkers have been immortalized in books, movies and poems. President Donald Trump Honored Alfred Newman at the WhiteHouse in 2017.

There is no official count of how many of the Navajo Code Talker survivors are left who served during World War II, but most agree there are less than 10.
